Sweet Friends -
I am so glad you've stopped by our website and found our video devotions page! I don't believe in coincidence...there's a reason you've found yourself on this very page! I have never liked doing videos and pretty much avoided it...until the COVID-19 outbreak. Shortly after COVID-19 happened, I felt the prompting to do occasional videos. To my surprise, they became popular on our Facebook page, so we've uploaded them to our website for quick viewing. Hopefully, these short videos will give you some insight and a word from the Holy Spirit that is just for you. God is in control and the light of Jesus still shines in these unsettling days.
'Heart of a Warrior' - A Forty-day Devotional Sharing a Legacy of Faith was officially released one year ago. It amazes me that it's now in its 4th printing! God has used it in so many ways that were beyond my comprehension (Ephesians 3:20). Even though, due to the outbreak, we are on a limited travel basis...we ARE TRAVELING via 'Heart of a Warrior' back to 5th Street in Highland Park, where these devotions took place in the neighborhood where I grew up. Times were different then and I hope these travel adventures bring you some reassurance and a warm smile to your heart!
My young years in Highland Park, was like living in a miniature Mayberry. I was surrounded by my parents, grandparents, and a tribe of faithful widowed women, the 5th Street Warriors (different shapes and sizes of Aunt Bee). You too will be enchanted with this wonderful neighborhood on 5th Street, and the cast of real life characters, as you journey up the hill to ‘God’s rock’, breathe in the smell of shelves filled with books during Story Hour in the old Highland Park Library, discover the afternoon the neighbor 'Grace' received real Jesus grace, and relive summer afternoons on the back porch with sweet tea and the southern belle aunts...just to name a few of the adventures you'll find awaiting you on 5th Street.
I try to give a little background before reading the devotion in each video. The length of each video is between 8 and 10 minutes. God always gives me the words to share. I didn't plan on doing more than one or two of these videos, so I have skipped around in the book...meaning the days are out of sequence. But again, I trust that the Lord moved my spirit as I did each video, so I guess to Him the numbering system in the book doesn't matter.
I pray that God touches your heart as you watch these short devotional videos, and you are encouraged, hopeful, filled with an extra measure of faith, and a ray of joy touches your soul. God is always good, even in times of the unknown...may you develop the 'Heart of a Warrior'.
He will give you the desires of your heart. Psalm 37:4
Blessings,

Day 2 - A Warrior's Heart for Little Things -How Chef Boyardee Left the Shelf and Changed Futures
In this video devotion, I have a prop...which I love...my mom’s old milking stool from her days growing up on the farm. It will make sense...trust me. Let us all be leaving a legacy of faith that will stand long after we are gone...for those who are far off. I wonder if my great, great, great, grandkiddo’s will review this video one day and question my choice of clothing and hairstyle...or lack thereof. Hopefully, they will be able to see my heart. What are things you're doing to assure you leave a legacy of faith?

This devotional video is done in our 1875 bank building in historical Walnut, Iowa, where we have The Notebook Cafe and our sweet shop The Vault Mercantile. The upstairs hallway that used to be the old boarding rooms is full of generations of my families photos. Some of whom I've met, and others who go way back to the late 1800's and I've only seen their picture, or something that belonged to them that they left behind. But I know, they've prayed for me and gifted me an unseen prayer quilt as a legacy. You'll get to see the hand tatted 6 foot table cloth that my great, great grandmother made for my great grandmother as her wedding gift. What are you leaving behind for your legacy? Will it be a legacy of faith that will stand?
My mom was able to use ordinary activities to teach us about faith. She shared her faith through the mundane tasks of being a mom. She loved jewelry and had lots of costume jewelry for many years. As a little girl, the afternoons spent playing dress up on 5th street, were put to good use to learn real life lessons. I know my mom traded in her costume jewelry for a crown on September 18, 2017...the one her heavenly Father had waiting. Do you use the mundane activities in life to learn lessons, or teach lessons to someone else? Are you ready to give up costume jewelry for the real thing?
I have fond memories of our 5th Street 'Aunt Bee' named Grace. She lived across the street. The neighbors used to call her a spinster...I had no idea what that was for years. My mom always said Grace hadn't been shown much 'grace' in life and we were to share that with her now. Grace could be a whiner, complainer, and downright unhappy at times, but God used our family to show her the grace of Jesus...which one day...included cleaning her sheets. God calls us to show the grace of Jesus in ways that may not seem glamorous in human eyes...but to God, that grace is beautiful in His daughters. If you have someone that needs 'grace' in your life...this video devotion is for you, sweet friend.
Day 30 - Stay the Course - Facing Fear
What a bittersweet weekend...The Notebook Cafe 6th Annual Women's Conference would have been tomorrow in Walnut, Iowa, BUT GOD changed the plans with all that's going on and it's been rescheduled for October 10...think about that...10.10.20...a perfect equation! A man’s heart plans his course, but the LORD determines his steps. Proverbs 16:9. Lord, it's all Your's...You determine my steps. Do you find the Lord rearranging your steps lately?

Day 37 - A Warrior's Heart for Living Outside the Lines - Letting God Clean Up Your Paint Mess
This is one of my favorite devotions from the book! You'll get to meet the 5th Street neighbor (one sweet Aunt Bee), Mary Miller. She loved to paint and won several ribbons at the Iowa State Fair, BUT GOD gave me more lessons from Mary than just her talent of painting. Do you ever feel like your a messy paint canvas living outside the lines? Join me...and Mary, along with God...and lets join one of our Biblical sisters for this devotion too!
