'Heart of a Warrior'
A Forty-day Devotional sharing a Legacy of Faith
By Shelly Thompson
'Heart of a Warrior' is now in it's 4th printing and has received wonderful reviews. The pages of this book written by Shelly Thompson, Publisher of The Notebook Cafe, are real life devotions God wrote on her heart as a young girl growing up on 5th Street in an old neighborhood known as Highland Park...a miniature Mayberry...surrounded by her parents, grandparents, and a tribe of faithful widowed women (different shapes and sizes of Aunt Bee).
Readers are enchanted with this wonderful neighborhood as they journey up the hill to ‘God’s rock’, remember breathing in the smell of amazing stacks of books during Story Hour in the old library, discover the afternoon the neighbor 'Grace' received real Jesus grace, relive summer afternoons on the back porch with sweet tea and stories y'all, finding ‘buried treasure’ in the back alley that God used to demonstrate His restoration, walk through painful steps of saying a temporary farewell to the faith Warriors in this life as they pass the torch of faith to the next generation to carry forward...creating the ‘Heart of a Warrior’...for a time such as this.
This book is a forty-day legacy devotional with encouraging warrior journal notes, battle strategies, and real life devotions...for all seasons in life. Your heart will be touched, changed, revived, restored...and prepared to leave a legacy of faith for the next generation.
Return with author Shelly Thompson for forty days to where her journey began...the old house on 5th Street at the bottom of the hill. A special place where God touched a little girl’s heart for a lifetime.

In 2015, Shelly Thompson started The Notebook Cafe -- Inspired Words for the Journey, as an online cafe brewing up words of inspiration and encouragement to equip others for this journey. No longer just online, The Notebook Cafe is located within a restored 1875 historic bank building, nestled in the Midwest in the quaint town of Walnut, Iowa. The Notebook Cafe has expanded to include a sweet shoppe, Millie McKeever's Vintage & Home Decor, and 201 Coffee Bar. 'The Cafe' offers a place where women gather to share a time of fellowship, devotion, and a tour the circa 1875 historical bank building restored by Shelly and her husband. Shelly is the Publisher of The Notebook Cafe and author of two books. Entwined, now in it's fourth printing; and Heart of a Warrior; in it's sixth printing. Shelly has a passion for writing what God places in her heart. Taking a giant leap of faith she left the corporate world in 2015 to pursue a dream God gave her of developing a monthly inspirational faith based online reading café. Today, The Notebook Café reaches over one million people each month. She has found the road in unknown territory is not always easy, BUT GOD always finds a way to bring about what He has promised. The Notebook Cafe has hosted seven women's conferences since October 2015. In 2022, The Notebook Cafe offered it's first four day women's retreat, A November to Remember - A Branson Christmas, with a second one planned for November 2023. Shelly and her husband, Dave, spend time with their family and many weekends working renovation projects…that thankfully never seem to end.
