Deep in the Heart of Texas
By Shelly Thompson
Several weeks ago I packed up to travel for junkin', site seeing, food, warmer weather, and the ocean! I went to Corpus Christi, Dallas, Waco, South Padre Island (where I climbed my first light house and fell in love with light houses), Wichita and every place in between. The junkin' was great, but the small towns and people were amazing! The beaches of South Padre in early winter are beautiful and still very warm. The best part, they are uncrowded. I loved collecting sea shells on the shores of South Padre. The ocean waves were beautiful as the sun gleamed on them.
Sometimes you just have to take the plunge and travel. I returned home with so many amazing finds and so many new friends. This spring I plan on going back. I discovered places that I want to visit again. But this trip will be familiar and like returning to a place that feels like home.
I wanted to share some of the highlights of the trip deep in the heart of Texas. I will include page links so you can follow these pages, and if you get the chance...go visit! This is by no way all inclusive, but I picked my top places and they are amazing!
Are you ready for a virtual travel adventure? Let's go!!!

The Junky Monkey-Waco, TX
If you get to Waco, you'll want to stop at The Junky Monkey. First, the owner, Jill, is absolutely awesome. I've been watching some of her FB Lives since we returned home and Jill can stack a cart at a thrift store like nobody I've ever seen. The shop is awesome and filled with tons of great vintage...everything you can imagine, including some jewelry and boutique clothing, but the gem to me...was the outside salvage yard. There was more cool chippy, garden, rustic treasures including windows, doors, garden tables and chairs, tools, claw foot tubs...you name it...you'll find it! You can connect to The Junky Monkey by clicking here! In the meantime here's a few photos below -

Riverside Relics Vintage Market-Waco, TX
This was so fun and the sweet worker was super nice. She let us go into the back yard area where we found a couple of treasures including an old train mirror. The store was very clean, well organized and the vendors had good pricing. You can find Riverside Relics Vintage Market on Facebook by clicking here!

Junque in the Trunk-Waco, TX
It starts on the porch and just gets better when you enter! Awesome owner! He was super nice. Great inspirational ideas as you browse the store. I love that there is a map for visitors to place their city. I was the first one to place Walnut, Iowa on the map! You can check out their Facebook page by clicking here!

Cedar Chest Antique Mall-McGregor, TX
This is one of the biggest malls I've ever been to. It has hundreds of booths in its 32,000 square feet and has been featured on Fixer Upper! It has SO much to see. You'll want to plan a day to get through this amazing mall! Click here to follow them on Facebook.

Paramount Antique Mall-Wichita, KS
Traveling back home, I stopped in Wichita. Paramount Antique Mall does not disappoint. I met my new friend Diane (pictured) working at Paramount Antique Mall. You can follow her on Instagram at vintagegirl_ict. She has amazing items! I purchased ‘Jenny’ from her. A rustic sewing form…number 8 in my collection. Jenny is well loved from her travels, and Diane was kind enough to pass her to me. One of my last treasures on this road trip! You'll want to visit the Paramount Antique Mall in Wichita!
