I've always found that women love to gather. It's a relaxed time to share their stories, encourage each other, talk about the happenings in their lives, and what's happening within their families. Sometimes they need a small tribe to support them for health issues, or other things causing uncertainty in their lives.

Gathering for women is usually a time of laughter, celebration, recalling memories that have brought joy over the years, and a time of creating that special 'sisterhood' our hearts often yearn for. But what if...there's no place to gather? Not everyone wants to tidy up their house to have girlfriends over, many don't have space, or maybe a good central location is needed to gather. That's why in November we created The Gathering Room in our 1875 historical bank building. Our Gathering Room offers space for up to 16 women in a relaxing and quiet atmosphere, with warm and inviting decor (you might even get a few decorating ideas!)...we think it's the perfect place...to gather.

Since introducing The Gathering Room , it has been wonderful hearing how women love having the space to use. Many have shared their stories with me...that means a lot.  We've had the pleasure of hosting small professional women's groups, friends who find Walnut is a central meeting place between Des Moines and Omaha, one woman celebrating cancer free results...which was a miracle, friends and coworkers, Birthday celebrations, and we've loved every minute of seeing the joy and hearing the laughter of the women who gather in our space.

If you're looking for a place to gather...we've created the perfect space in our small cozy Midwest community in an 1875 historic bank building. We'll make your small group...or large group...feel welcome! There's no charge to use The Gathering Room (and we added on the Upstairs Boarding Room Kitchen for additional space), we just ask that you purchase your beverage through our little coffee shop located in our lobby, 201 Coffee. You'll love our coffee, teas, and gourmet hot cocoa. And...if you're looking for a little something to eat while you're there...we offer Esther's homemade cinnamon rolls, or pumpkin bars...and they are AMAZING! You can also bring your own food/treats in.

There is one more very unique space in our bank building...a restored and repurposed 148-year-old bank vault. Last fall as we emptied the contents to repair the walls, floor, and ceiling...I could see my sweet mom, Esther, sitting on those steps leading into the vault years before. It was then I knew exactly what to do with this space...turn it into Esther's Tea Room! You can click here  to read how Esther's Tea Room was created and see the photos! It's another fun space to visit in Walnut and enjoy your favorite beverage with a friend.

Don't let the weather keep you from gathering in 2023 before the spring thaw, we are taking reservations starting in March. We've got a warm and cozy space that will warm your heart. Simply email [email protected], or call 515-745-0476 for more information or to schedule your own gathering.

Make 2023 a time to gather and savor the moments with your friends.

There's a lot ahead in this issue...for your heart...and for your home.

Happy New Year, Shelly
