Giving Glory to God while Following…Waiting…and Persevering…for the Dream

I’ve always loved collecting and arranging things. Even as a young wife and mother, I would scour garage sales for bargains we could afford and create displays in our home that everyone loved. It was a joy to decorate our small homes as we moved trying to create inexpensive spaces that my family enjoyed. I realized several years ago in my heart, God had placed a dream to somehow pursue my love of décor and design, while sharing my love for God and serving Him. I called a Christian girlfriend to discuss what I felt God was leading me to do. She advised me to continue to seek His plan for my life, but to know that it would most likely be one step at a time…small steps. Even things that might not seem important.
Years passed and as I read the Bible, journaled, and prayed, I consistently placed before God the desire He had placed in my heart to utilize my love of decorating and design. While I loved my journey I was on in healthcare, I knew God was calling me to something else, perhaps preparing me, and I kept on doing the daily things He would give me to do each day…knowing deep in my heart that one day, He would bring the dream He had given me to life.
Does God place dreams in our heart? According to the Bible He absolutely does! Psalm 37:4 says, Delight yourself in the LORD, and He will give you the desires of your heart. That means…God will give you in your heart, what He wants you to pursue, your calling, if you will delight, spend time, and know the heart of God. How amazing! That our Father, Himself, will give us the desire in our heart…of exactly what He’s calling us to. Does that mean it will be easy? No. Does that mean it will happen immediately? No. Look how long it took for David to become King once he was anointed by God through Samuel? David was a shepherd boy of approximately 15…yet, David was 30 when he became King (2 Samuel 5:4). What did David do after he had been anointed as the next KING? He went back to the fields and tended sheep. You know later, David had to battle a giant…God was preparing David for greater things, even though it might have seemed mundane. Although battling lions and bears in my scope…would be anything but mundane!
That’s kind of how it worked for me. I knew my calling was given and the desire God had placed in my heart…but I continued on being faithful in the daily tasks, working, raising my children, volunteering. Then one day, I began a small booth in a nearby town selling some of the bargains I would find. I loved that I could design my booth and other people would actually buy things and compliment my displays. Forward a few more years, I began doing small staging jobs at Christmas time. Each year my Christmas home staging was starting earlier and earlier because I was getting so busy, and I was asked to do other things; business office organization, decluttering, home organization…and if you keep reading…you’ll see just what God did, when times got tough through the pandemic. I don’t want to share that great ‘God thing’ just yet.
While owning a business has been very rewarding in my life, especially as an empty nester, that’s not to say it’s been easy. Along with the many great days, there have been hard days, long days, disappointing days, and discouraging days. Especially, when we faced the pandemic and a recession. During the pandemic, there were times when we wondered if the dream was ending. In those moments when my human heart would panic, I would ask God to direct my path to use me where He wanted to. Everything I did with the dream He had placed in my heart, I wanted to be for His glory. Like clockwork, the messages kept coming bringing one project at a time. Each week I would pray, Lord if it be your will send another project.
Read carefully…not only did He provide steady work during difficult times, but the business was growing. Growing! It was actually during this time, our small home decorating business expanded to include wedding planning, real estate staging, exterior design, and property renovations.
I want my business, and my life, to glorify God. I wish there was room to tell you all the stories behind our spaces. From cancer warriors and nervous brides to proud homeowners and widows. Often you will find our team praying for the families we are working with. It is an honor to be a part of so many intimate moments while bringing design dreams, and life dreams to reality.
At Harvest Home, hard work, perseverance under pressure, and attention to detail are what we strive for. Giving glory to God one space at a time.
If you feel God has given your heart a desire…pray through it, be persistent, keep doing the daily tasks and let Him open the doors in His perfect timing, because…He who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Jesus Christ. Philippians 1:6
