I personally invite you, as we open our doors, to join us for The Notebook Café ‘Christmas in Walnut’. Enjoy a tour of the circa 1875 historic bank building my husband and I restored, learn a little history, meet a few new friends, and hear a special devotion about Jesus who came to earth for the restoration of everyone. To restore our hearts. To bring joy to our souls…not our circumstances…but our souls. To give us the gift of Himself, so that we never fill empty or vacant. (You can read more about restoration here...)

We will be hosting two different times to welcome guests on Saturday, November 26th. The first gathering will be from 10:00 – 11:-00 and the second time will be from 2:00 – 3:00. Spaces are limited, so please make reservations early as we will not be accepting reservations once spots are filled. We will have tours, refreshments, and share a devotion about the baby who came to restore the world. After you feel refreshed, you can walk the streets of Walnut listening to Christmas music, and visit the many stores in Walnut that will be offering Christmas treats.

Each guest will also receive a signed copy of The Notebook Café & Co. Publishing book release Entwined. A large part of the book takes place in Walnut and it was written in Walnut. In fact, it was put together in one of the office/rooms on the upper level. What a great gift to give yourself, some time with God reading a book about His restoration in Entwined.

In this peaceful town…maybe you’ll discover a deeper meaning to Christmas than you’ve ever felt before, and like me, restoration you didn’t even know you needed.

Trusting God through Change

By Shelly Thompson, Publisher

The Notebook Cafe -- Inspired Words for the Journey

Today… (I share this not to boast, but to show a heart intent on seeking Jesus during this time for our country)…I fasted for our nation, our children, our grandchildren, our churches teaching on a foundation of truth, our veterans, our military, our police officers, our candidates, our poor, our rich, our sick, our healthy, our uninsured, our uneducated, our educated, our elderly, our youth, our justice system, the oppressed, and the oppressors…

It’s been disappointing to me to witness so much energy, time, money, and passion…put into political campaigns. What if those same resources and abilities were put into our churches that preach the word of God, who teach the truth of the cross…the blood of Jesus? Such passion and resources wasted on the pursuit of a worldly reign…

Worldly leaders are important, but spiritual things are of even greater value. Seek first the kingdom of God…

We don’t have a crystal ball (although I did see a Christian media columnist use one on a post with his ‘predictions’), but we have media sources telling us how our world will look now that the elections are over…they tell us no matter what…

We’re doomed…

These words spoken as they peer into their own knowledge and lean on their own understanding, and human predictions.

To the media who practice predictions…we followers of God already know what we’re experiencing and will experience in the future. We don‘t need a warning with predictions from man. God beat them to it in the Bible. Years before media existed He warned us that our world would become lawless…

The Bible describes a time so horrific that God must cut the days short…Matthew 24:22 "If those days had not been cut short, no one would survive, but for the sake of the elect those days will be shortened.” Matthew Henry’s commentary says this about Matthew 24:22, ‘But where the heart is fixed, trusting in God, it is kept in peace, and is not afraid. It is against the mind of Christ, that his people should have troubled hearts, even in troublous times.’

Post election time is scary…if you don’t know Jesus Christ. The world is terrifying if you haven’t placed your faith in him. If we let God be God, instead of elevating any person to that level…we would know the truth in our hearts. There is only one righteous ruler. There is only one God. There is only one true source of protection. There is only One…

No election will ever change God.

No election will ever change His son’s sacrifice for our sins.

No election will ever steal our eternal salvation.

No election can ever remove us from His hand.

No election ever scares God.

God didn't share with the media, but I am pretty sure He knew the winner of the election before the swing states were counted.

We are safe if we are sealed by the blood of the lamb.

We are at peace if we fix our hearts on trusting only in God.

If we have Jesus in our heart, we have peace…in all circumstances.

Here are the verses I meditated on today—

When the servant of the man of God got up and went out early the next morning, an army with horses and chariots had surrounded the city. “Oh, my Lord, what shall we do?” the servant asked. “Don’t be afraid,” the prophet answered. “Those who are with us are more than those who are with them.” And Elisha prayed, “O Lord, open his eyes so he may see.” The Lord opened the servant’s eyes, and he looked and saw the hills full of horses and chariots of fire all around Elisha. 2 Kings 6:15-17 – God’s protection is often unseen.

They were helped in fighting them, and God handed the Hagrites and all their allies over to them, because they cried out to him during the battle. He answered their prayers because they trusted in him. 1 Chronicles 5:20 – Cry out to the Lord and trust only in Him.

If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn away from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land. 2 Chronicles 7:14 – Only God can heal our land not any elected official.

O our God, will you not judge them? For we have no power to face this vast army that is attacking us. We do not know what to do, but our eyes are upon you. 2 Chronicles 20:12 – Keep your eyes on the Lord.

“Does Job fear God for nothing?” Satan replied. “Have you not put a hedge of protection around him and his household and everything he has? You have blessed the work of his hands, so that his flocks and herds are spread throughout the land. Job 1:10 – Pray for God’s hedge of protection around our nation.

But if it were I, I would appeal to God; I would lay my cause before him. He performs wonders that cannot be fathomed, miracles that cannot be counted. Job 5:8, 9 – Appeal to God. Lay your cause at the altar.

And these are but the outer fringe of his works; how faint the whisper we hear of him! Who then can understand the thunder of his power? Job 26:14 – Take strength in His mighty power.

Spread your protection over them that those who love your name may rejoice in you. For surely, O Lord, you bless the righteous; you surround them with your favor as with a shield. Psalm 5:12 – Love the name of the Lord.

Those who know your name will trust in you, for you, LORD, have never forsaken those who seek you. Psalm 9:10 – The Lord never forsakes His children.

…the ordinances of the LORD are sure and altogether righteous. They are more precious than gold, than much pure gold: they are sweeter than honey, than honey from the comb. By them is your servant warned; in keeping them there is great reward. Psalm 19:9-11 – Keep the words of the Lord, eat them like honey.

Posterity will serve him; future generations will be told about the Lord. They will proclaim his righteousness to a people yet unborn – for he has done it. Psalm 22:30, 31 – Pray for your unborn legacy.

God give us victory against the enemy, for the help of man is worthless. With God we will gain the victory, and he will trample down our enemies. Psalm 60:11, 12 – Pray for our nation’s victory as can only be done by God.

When the Lord heard them he was very angry; his fire broke out against Jacob, and his wrath rose against Israel, for they did not believe in God or trust in his deliverance. Psalm 78:21, 22 – Pray for God to withhold His wrath and grant us deliverance.

For the LORD will rebuild Zion and appear in his glory. He will respond to the prayer of the destitute; he will not despise their plea. Let this be written for a future generation, that a people not yet created may praise the LORD. Psalm 102:16, 17, 18 – May we be that generation! May we praise the LORD!

But as for me, I watch in hope for the LORD, I wait for God my Savior, my God will hear me. Micah 7:7 – Watch for God and see what He will do!

…Holy Father, protect them by the power of your name – the name you gave me – so that they may be one as we are one. John 17:11 – True protection and power is only in the name of Jesus.

The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds. We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ. 2 Corinthians 10: 4, 5 – Pray for God to demolish strongholds in our nation.

And the God of all grace, who called you to his eternal glory in Christ, after you have suffered a little while, will himself restore you and make you strong, firm and steadfast. To him be the power for ever and ever. Amen 2 Peter 1:14 – Pray for God’s restoration to sweep the nation.

In the post-election time of what feels like uncertainty, calamity, rumors of wars, and evil unleashed…I hope God’s words penetrate your heart. God still hears our prayers. I urge you to join me on your knees and pray for our nation. We know God will hear. We know no matter what…we are safe in the palm of God’s hand.

We are His…regardless of any elected politician…nothing will change that.

Praying,

Shelly
