Welcome to a different candle. Years in the making, each candle carrying a flame of hope and encouragement.

The 5th Street Candle and Soap Company was a dream tucked away for years in my heart while growing up in our family home  'the house on 5th Street' in Highland Park located in Des Moines, Iowa. I remember watching my mom make beautiful candles the last few months of each year.  She would then host a little 'candle sale' in late November. This was how my parents were able to purchase Christmas presents for me and my sister. We were a close family with my grandparents living just four houses away from our home, and my great grandparents just a few more houses from them. If you can, visualize tidy well manicured lawns, with small cozy homes lining the big 5th Street hill...porches where you were always welcome and neighbors who visited over coffee and sweet tea as flags waved in the breeze. You're in the right spot, welcome to my childhood neighborhood and the house on 5th Street.

While my family experienced many struggles as I was growing up in the house on 5th Street, faith remained strong. There was always a flicker of hope on that big hill on 5th Street.

The 5th Street Candle Collection was created to share the stories of the women of 5th Street from the book ‘Heart of a Warrior - A Legacy of Faith’, now in its seventh printing (click here to learn more here about the book 'Heart of a Warrior - A Legacy of Faith). These one-of-a-kind unique candles were created from generations of family recipes by a skilled local artesian candlemaker. She lovingly made our family recipes into amazing candles. On each candle you'll find a simple brown tag with the recipe the candle was inspired by and the devotional back story behind the candle filled with encouragement and hope. These are flames of faith passed down from generations. You can learn even more about these wonderful warrior's of 5th Street on our website under 'candle stories'. These candles share the flame of hope and encouragement from the women of 5th Street all those years ago.

Our candles are the highest quality using only American made products. The 5th Street Candle Company candles are made by a local candlemaker in a small cottage. Each candle is hand poured ensuring the same wonderful fragrance when you open it as it does at the very bottom. Our candles are made with pure soy wax. These special candles tell a story. They aren't just candles. They're generational flames of faith. Handed down. Kept alive. For a time such as this. Just like the neighborhood on 5th Street, when you light the flame, you'll remember...a place where your own memories and 5th Street intersect as your home is filled with the scent of cherished memories and happiness.

These candles are special...because they've been created to honor real people, real lives, and real women who had a story to tell. Welcome to 5th Street, relax sweet friend, you've found a place that is warm and welcoming.
