ABOUT SHELLY THOMPSON

Shelly Thompson an author, speaker and Publisher of The Notebook Café. Her first book, Entwined was released by The Notebook Café & Co. Publishing. Shelly has had a passion for writing what God places in her heart since childhood. On February 17, 2015, taking a giant leap of faith when she heard God whisper His call in her heart, she reluctantly left the corporate world to pursue where God would take her next. God brought to life a dream of developing a monthly inspirational faith based online reading café of words. Shelly had worked in high level marketing and content writing positions for years and now, God wanted to use that love of writing for His glory. Today, through social media, the website, and online subscribers, The Notebook Café reaches almost 40,000 people each month. The Notebook Cafe will host its 3rd annual women's conference on September 30, 2017, featuring speaker Miss Clara (Karen Abercrombie) from the movie War Room. Shelly has found the road in unknown territory is not always easy, BUT GOD always finds a way to bring about what He has promised. Shelly lives in Des Moines, Iowa, with her husband, in their current renovation project. They spend time with their parents, three daughters, grandlittles, and many weekends working on home renovation projects...that thankfully never seem to end.

The Notebook Café

A Legacy of Motherhood

By Shelly Thompson, Publisher

The Notebook Café

This photo of my daughter and grandson (actually two grandson's) touches my heart as Mother's Day approaches...

Hearts carrying different emotions...

A tapestry of love spanning many generations...

And we learn...He is good throughout all generations. We can trust Him to redeem our mothering.

He sees all the moments from the beginning...

For you formed my inward parts; you knitted me together in my mother's womb. Psalm 139:13

His eyes span the years...

He watches...

As our hearts are softened while we watch our newborns sleeping. Hear their breathing. Soak in their scent. Softly caress their warm cheeks. Letting their laughter cover us with joy. Their tears fill our hearts with unspeakable compassion.

He watches...

As our hearts are pierced seeing the hands of our own mothers, who nurtured us throughout the years, begin to lose their strength and ability to care for themselves.

He sees all the parenting moments spanning generations, and they are all precious to Him...every single one...

Even the hard ones. Perhaps, especially the hard ones. The heartbreaking ones.

For it's then...God teaches a mother's heart...

His words are always true no matter how many times we fall short.

His love is constant and unconditional, even when it's not returned or even unwanted.

His forgiveness abounds and His grace covers us, inviting us to forgive ourselves in the moments we stumble.

His complete truth, patience, and compassion offered to us as His own children, are the best things we can model and offer to the children He gifts us.

His promises are seen throughout the generations.

God is still working on us in the spiritual sense as His children, while physically we are earthly parents. We are not spiritually fully mature 'grown ups', yet He trusts us to raise His sons and daughters.

We make mistakes. We squander precious time. We speak when we should listen. We feel frustrated when we should dance. We are angry when we should be grateful. We have scars that we won't let heal. And then...

Without warning...

We see the cap and gown hanging in the closet for graduation...

We see the bride or groom we once held as a sleeping infant in our arms...

We're swept up with a new love...

A deeper love than we knew possible as we look into the eyes of our grandchildren...

We're celebrating the victories....

Of a legacy that we didn't even see God bringing together...

Through all the tough moments...

The moments that may have escaped us in the chaos of life...

All the moments...good and bad...beautiful and ugly...

God honors and redeems.

And in that moment...we realize how precious motherhood is. How amazing God is.

God has taken the gift of moments in this life of being a child, mother, or grandmother throughout generations...

And woven it into a legacy...that will outlast us…

Our faith entwined into a tapestry to be gently handed to the next generation...

A love in our hearts as mothers we will carry into eternity and give thanks to our Father face-to-face...one day...for the legacy He has redeemed through His own child...His only son...Jesus Christ.

I am reminded of your sincere faith, a faith that dwelt first in your grandmother Lois and your mother Eunice and now, I am sure, dwells in you as well. 2 Timothy 1:5

Blessed Mother’s Day as you weave your faith tapestry,

Shelly Thompson, Publisher
